Your Hat is Your Crown; Wear Unique Be Unique

Your Hat is Your Crown; Wear Unique Be Unique

Hats are basically mean for the purpose of covering one’s head but their purpose is also diversified to protection, ceremonial reasons, religious reasons, safety, or as a fashion accessory. They are known to denote ranks and designations in military and even in religious cults. Some of the hats, tend to become synonymous and integral to the characters that wear them. And no, I’m not talking about Clint Eastwood. Any hat looks good on him. Have a look at the following pictures and try to identify the people or characters that these hats remind you of:

Well, the trivia is over and the answers are:
Sherlock holmes, Robin Hood, Scottish guard, Captain Jack Sparrow, Titanic Kate Winslet, Pope, Gandalf The Grey, Charlie Chaplin and Indiana Jones(Couldn’t leave out the last two now could I!!)

The point that I intend to make here is that hats are more than just a covering for your head. They tend to become synonymous with one’s identity if chosen and carried properly. A hat being worn on the head which incidentally happens to be both the topmost and the most important part of the body earns a lot of respect as attire as well. Certain hats like that of Scottish guard or the pope is forbearer of the respect and authority these people enjoy and symbolizes their individual charisma.

The art of hat making is called Millinery and Milliner was the Plumassier, who specialized in plummage and the dyeing and arranging of feathers. Feathers were, of course, prized and very important, since no hat would be complete without at least one plume in the early days. There’s also science behind the use of hats as people tend to lose head through their head.

So far the talk has been about men as for women hats have mostly been a fashion accessory used to exemplify conspicuous consumption. It has also been held for holding veil in prudish civilisations. Women, however, were expected to cover their head for the most part in the older times. However, women are not seen as much wearing hats unless they are on a beach or the hat is part of a uniform.

Going further the utility of hat has also been in showing respect or taking a bow and still stands as such with the practice of people taking of their hats as a sign of respect or as a part of curtain call. The types of hats that people wear were also used to judge their personality and preferences. In contemporary societies, the sartorial equivalent of the hat is the T-shirt, which expresses social identity in many different ways, ranging from identity politics to lifestyle. However, the use of hats is still frequent in retrospective movies, country songs and thus people who are into hats swear by them. Further, given the fact that hats are not as commonplace as caps makes it unique in adding a new aspect to the wearer’s personality and looks. So go pick one for yourself and get yourself the new look that it promises. Who knows you might like it.
