If She’s Got Stole, You’ve Got Mufflers: The Game is ON Sherlock!!!

What’s the relation between stole and muffler, you might ask. Well, frankly, none. It’s just that I am hopelessly attracted to any woman in stole, and I believe most of us are. So a thought crossed my mind as to what would be its complement in the masculine world. Then the image of Sherlock Holmes with his muffler crossed my mind and hence the title. Have a look at the image and try to imagine Benedict without the muffler, wouldn’t look as much astute now would he. Mufflers add a different aura of elegance to one’s personality. They are mostly unisexual in terms of gender preference but still the variety in terms of offerings for males is much less than those available for females. Further, off late stoles, colourful scarfs specifically designed for women, have become more of a fashion statement and accessory for protection against dust, sunlight and prying eyes for women. Mufflers on the other hand have remained true to their initial purpose of existence i.e. protection against cold.

In the context of India, the winter isn’t as much tormenting as the summer. Therefore, the sale of mufflers is by and large seasonal in most parts and driven more by fashion than utility. It is no surprise when the sale of mufflers increased as a result of the video of the song “Chand Sifarish”. However, they have been a fashion statement of the real heroes and veterans of the air for a longer time and the wearing of scarves by men was popularized by its adoption by the aviators in both World Wars, who used the scarf for warmth and to prevent chafing as they scanned the sky for enemy planes. From the Terracotta Warriors of China to modern-day desert military units, we see mufflers used because they provide value in inclement weather. Apart from performing the function of protecting people’s neck, can add a strong element of style as well. Especially, in colder places like England, it is also symbolic of one’s support for a particular football club.

However, my topic is more related to the fact that most scarves aren’t made for men–we are a very small part of the market and as such you may find a scarf in the menswear sale rack that is questionable. However, there are numerous online sites like Orosilber that make the offering online with substantial diversity in offering as well. So next time I get smitten by a stole adorned beauty, I’ll make sure I have a decent muffler tied around my neck to strengthen my case. The balance in the game of attraction can be restored. Get your muffler guys, the game is on!!!
