Jewellery and Women: The Longest Affair There Ever Was

Jewellery and Women: The Longest Affair There Ever Was

Jewellery basically are personal ornaments, such as necklaces, rings, or bracelets that are typically made from or contain jewels and precious metal. In earlier times, they were used to symbolize affluence by kings and nobles of any civilisation. But the value of jewellery for women lies not in grandiose display of one’s wealth as can be said by their liking for even those kinds of jewellery and ornaments that might not hold much value. It has got more to do with being a medium of expression. There is also an emotional angle to the entire affair for regardless of the price of jewellery, when sentiment or romance is added, even the most budget friendly jewels are transformed into a transportable memory and physical embodiment of love or friendship. Ornaments in addition to being a pleasure to shop and covet (wedding ring especially) are also sensitive, affluent, sensual, valuable and extremely indicative of women’s tastes. And thank god it does, else the guys would have to propose a girl with a teddy bear.

From an accounting perspective, jewellery is the worst kind of asset as it is idle and has limited scope for being available for reinvestment. Some jewellery is way too grand to be possessed by the common people for example the Pope’s ring or the crown of UK. But then not everyone can have it. There are different kinds of jewellery for different classes of people and hence, jewellery can establish strong bonds with women across classes. From candy necklaces and lollipop rings to irresistible clip-on earrings, accessories of every shape, size and material have capacity embellish any female’s self-perception. So, it adds on to the feel good factor in women. In addition, gold or any other rare element or gemstone also holds timeless value as against bank deposits, shares, bonds etc. Their price is less susceptible to various systemic and country specific risks, and this makes them the most secured assets as well.

Now apart from the financial and sentimental reasons for such knack for jewellery is also a scientific reason. Jewelleries make some body parts stand out, like for instance dangling earrings enhance the jawline, chokers enhance the neck and nape area, they can brighten the skin tone etc. Another quite contrasting reason lies in the fact that they use jewellery as a confirmation of their sense of self-worth e.g. being worth of proverbial “diamonds and pearls”. Through my reading what I have found is that more than beauty, jewellery enhances value. It is also wearable art, much like tattoos but much more flexible. Further, it all feeds their appetite for competition and comparison among their peers. In my perception, jewellery is most valued when received from a loved one as a surprise testimony of how much a lady is valued in the giver’s life. So, as long as love exists the affair between jewellery and women is here to stay and thankfully so.
